Jamie Thierman

Jamie Thierman has been commissioned to write a piece for the four trombone group, Skinny Lips and the Sound Malfunction (SLSM). They plan to premiere this piece at the International Trombone Festival in June, where they have been asked to perform. The four trombonists of SLSM are creating original concert experiences to connect a broader audience with live music. By combining new music, storytelling, and multimedia presentations, they strive to redefine the expectations of the classical music audience.

Jamie Thierman, the composer, moved to Los Angeles in 2010 to attend UCLA as a Ph.D. composition student, where she assisted and taught music theory and musicianship, and studied composition under David Lefkowitz and Ian Krouse. At UCLA she received the Jerry Goldsmith Award in 2011 and the Hugo Davise Composition Award in 2015. She was also selected twice to have her music played in Russia by the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, in 2013 and 2015. Jamie graduated from UCLA in 2015 with a Ph.D. in music composition and theory.
